About Us
Each year the club presents a variety of events for its members and their guests.

Regular events include the Annual Membership Meeting-Cellar Treasure black-tie optional dinner dance featuring mature wines from the clubs cellar, which is stocked with some of the finest vintages from Europe and California, carefully selected by our Cellar Master and supported by modest annual dues; a reception and German vintage white wine tasting at the German Consulate in San Francisco; a day trip in May to wineries for tasting, tours and a gourmet luncheon in one of California's notable wine growing regions; the Annual Holiday Claret Dinner, featuring roast beef and premier wines from the clubs cellar; a Harvest Moon Dinner, tasting and tour, at a select winery; and several other food and wine events, including Friday luncheons, at different venues, often with guest speakers and always featuring a selection of choice wines.

The club seeks to introduce its members to new and different wines and wine-makers, both domestic and foreign, while continuing to emphasize fun and fellowship. Accordingly, each year the club's Program Committee strives to outdo its predecessor committee.

Wine industry involvement is no longer a prerequisite for club membership. Most members today simply enjoy fine wines and food and like to get together with lawyers and others of similar persuasion to taste, drink and learn about wines and wine-making, on suitably festive occasions.

History
Lawyer Friends of Wine, a club of mainly San Francisco lawyers, was formed in 1965 in response to an ABA request for assistance in conducting wine country tours during the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Founder Louis Gomberg, San Francisco's venerable wine industry consultant, publisher of industry statistics, winery and vineyard acquisition deal-maker and non-practicing lawyer, then assembled a group of attorneys involved in the California wine industry as counsel for wine producers, as vineyard owners or as winery investors, to help in that endeavor. The tours were successful and the tour leaders decided to form "Lawyer Friends of Wine" as a permanent organization. Club members have led wine country tours for ABA Annual Meetings in San Francisco ever since, most recently in 1997.
